How it’s Used

For years, parents have relied on sippy cups and intermediary devices that make eating and drinking with common utensils easier for kids. The Gyro Bowl is the much-needed next step that can help overworked parents avoid food spills and tiring cleanup jobs.

Harnessing the power of the multi-axial gyroscope, this kid-friendly bowl features a smart design that allows the inner bowl to stay right-side up all the time. This ingenious system prevents toddlers and young children from spilling food on their clothing, on the floor or on the seat of the car.

This innovative spill-proof bowl features a circular handle that allows the inner bowl and rotating gyroscope mechanism to travel freely. When grabbed by this ergonomic, space-age handle, the bowl readjusts and stays completely level all the time. Thanks to the bowl’s advanced 360-degree rotation, the inner bowl and food contents will stay right-side up even when the bottom shell rotates over the top of the bowl.

Product Features

Originally called the NUO (No Uh-Oh) bowl, this spill-proof, kid-proof bowl has changed its look since the original prototype was created, but its features remained the same. The Gyro Bowl features an ultra-modern physique with a cheerful teal and golden-orange housing.

The bowl also features a handy stay-fresh lid to keep food items secure for outings or temporary storage. Three stubby legs built into the molded shell provide stability on flat surfaces while the circular handle allows the bowl to be carried at virtually any angle.

The secret to the Gyro Bowl’s motion-defiant design is its reactive balancing system, which features a weighted inner bowl that rotates 360 degrees for unprecedented spill protection. For durability, this spill-proof bowl is made from molded plastic that is free from Bisphenol A (BPA), a known hormone disruptor.

Although the Gyro Bowl is indestructible in most situations, it should not be heated in the microwave. For easy cleaning, it can be disassembled completely and cleaned in the top rack of the dishwasher.

Common Uses

Designed for parents by parents, this spill-resistant bowl is ideal for infants, toddlers and children from three to ten years of age. The bowl weighs approximately six ounces when empty and measures seven inches tall. The 3.5-inch-diameter inner bowl has the capacity to accommodate single servings of dry cereal, raisins, fruit and other snacks as well as larger quantities of salsa or dip for parties.

In addition to storing snacks, dry cereals and food at home or on the go, this spill-proof bowl can be used by adults too. In fact, many parents get a real kick out of the bowl when they examine it for the first time.

This handy, spill-resistant bowl can also be used at the office and around the home. Many people use these handy bowls to store paper clips, push pins and office supplies or for displaying candies, nuts, mints and small items. The bowl can even be hung from its handle without losing any items that are stored in the bowl.

The Inventors

This state of the art system was developed by hardworking mom Melinda Shepard and engineer/dad Brad Shepard, who created the product together. After cleaning cereal out of her minivan for the last time, Melinda came up with the idea for a spill-proof bowl. Shortly after Melinda explained the idea to her hubby engineer, the first NUO ( No Uh-Oh) Bowl was created.

The couple and their groundbreaking invention were featured on the PBS series Everyday Edisons, which follows independent entrepreneurs and first-time inventors as they launch their products and brands. Using creativity and engineering expertise to eliminate spills, this savvy pair solved every parent’s problem.

Real-World Situations

The Gyro Bowl is durable, kid friendly, easy to use and easy to clean, but it isn’t an end-all solution. Spills can still occur with this ingenious product. They just won’t occur as often.

Although this rotating bowl is immune to many situations, nothing can withstand being thrown from a highchair or dumped onto the floor. Toddlers can be curious, devilish and hard to control. To a headstrong toddler, the Gyro Bowl might seem like another toy or a challenge they’re ready to conquer.

Rebellious children are known to disassemble the components and temporarily disable the rotating mechanism. Some children prefer grabbing the bowl, which also prevents the gyroscope mechanism from rotating. For best results, children should hold the bowl using the circular handles rather than the free floating inner bowl.

Cereal bits, raisins and small food items can also become caught between the inner bowl and outer shell, which prevents the bowl from rotating. Fortunately, the bowl can be disassembled for easy cleaning and food extraction after the messiest situations.

When used with dry foods and snack items, the Gyro Bowl can drastically reduce the number of spills and messes parents have to clean. This handy bowl can be taken anywhere with the stay-fresh lid, and it’s small enough to be stowed in a stroller or diaper bag. In addition to preventing spills on clothing, in the car and on the floor, the Gyro Bowl is easy to clean and easy to use. Parents and kids love this colorful bowl and spill-proof invention.
